Carpet cleaning can be challenging! Our janitorial service deals with dirty carpet challenges every day. Not to mention our maids who also help with spot cleaning. Here are some tips if you are cleaning the carpet yourself:
- Find out how it's made
- Is it a super durable nylon 5th generation?
- If it's wool you will be very limited to what you can use and how much moisture you can safely apply
- Make sure you use distilled water to mix up your carpet chemicals then put in a pump spray for applying "pre-spray" to the carpet.
- Pre-spray should be a quality carpet cleaner that is safe in most situations. Modern enzyme based carpet cleaners are incredible and safe.
- Agitate the carpet after spraying with either an orbital/buffer - or if you don't have one a stiff bristle deck broom will work
- Now clean the carpet with an "extractor" that sprays the carpet and sucks it up simultaneously.
- Or.... use a buffer/orbital or even a Shark Sonic to transfer stains/dirt to your pads - change pads frequently.
Make sure that you always rinse the carpet with distilled water and a minimal amount of carpet detergent after pre-spraying. If you are using a buffer/orbital or shark instead of an extractor that sprays the carpet simply soak clean pads in distilled water with about 1 ounce of carpet cleaner to a gallon then keep changing soaked pads as your clean the carpet.
