The June of 2008 US News and World report listed the occupations that older Americans are likely to discover accessible. I am going to use this post as a jumping off point in the quest for occupations for mature Americans. We won't see all the occupations and professions in the post because in our present economic straits, a few of the occupations would be untenable. For example, real estate broker doesn't look to be a particularly great occupation to get right now even if it was accessible. The occupations we'll look at are:
1. Retail Sales/ Sales worker
2. Motorist
3. Secretaries/Administrative assistant
4. Tax preparer
Let us make several simplifying assumptions. First, let's stipulate the aged worker is prepared to go to get a brand new occupation and that he's willing to train for a fresh occupation if needed. These premises might not be as arbitrary as they appear. If you and a lot of coworkers were laid off, it's not as likely the special ability which you have isn't in demand in where your home is. A readiness to retrain as well as a readiness to go almost doubles your odds of obtaining a brand new occupation.
Given that we're referring to an older worker, a long apprenticeship is out of question. Occupations like engineer, physician, attorney, and machinist are out unless you previously have those abilities.
Of the four areas we've made a decision to look at let us see which one would be the most abundant. We will use one of the big popular job search websites to do our seeming. Specifically Yahoo's hotjobs. We will simplify our search criteria to allow it to be simpler to seek and find the most occupations.
Should you be doing a comprehensive job hunt you may need to compare these results with those from the occupation search websites like Monster and Headhunter? If you truly need to wade through all of the occupations in the working universe--and in case your abilities aren't substantially in use you might have to--I urge one of the Meta search engines such as Really, JuJu, or Simply Hired. The Meta job search engines let you search all the small job search sites in one fell swoop.
Meanwhile, back in the ranch, what can we learn from our Yahoo hotjobs investigation? If you would like to improve your chances of obtaining a job nationally, do not become a tax preparer. Such guidance should be taken with a grain of salt. Clearly as we get nearer to April 15th the demand for tax preparers should grow and the outcome of the investigation will transform. But in case you'd like work right now, doing someone's taxes will not look like the thing to do.
