People who return from a short period when their life ends have attempted to communicate to us what they see and sense on the other side. It becomes a difficult task for them because to frame that ravishing experience in the day-to-day language is almost impossible. That is what makes the NDE a recondite issue. Some detractors, however, try to veer people away from this extraordinary phenomenon saying that it is no more than a gimmick of a decaying brain’s count down! People who come to such conclusions are unaware of the rational mind’s limitations in the esoteric realm. The explaining-away attitude in them causes serious obstruction to their moving towards discovering the truth. Once we steer away from the influences of the conventional mind, we begin to explore NDEs and find a great vista opening for us towards enriching our lives spiritually. If you are new to this area, you may make a beginning by reading some of the early books in this field, such as “Life after Life” by Raymond Moody. The more you explore into this, the more you perceive and the more vibrant your life becomes. This is because, as mentioned in the ancient Sanskrit book of Kathopanishad, “If you do not attempt to understand what becomes of you when life ends, you cannot understand life.”
From the thousands of NDE accounts collected, four of the main messages are as follows:
1. Unqualified Love: The feeling of love that they experience while being on the other side, especially while being with the Light, is of a superior nature compared to what we know by that word while being in the body. The Divine love is not only unconditional but is something that does not function in the manner of ‘I love you’ kind of duality. After the experience, the NDEers are able to relate to people and to all things on earth with that impact, so that such questions as to what country or religion the other person belongs become meaningless.
2. Sensing the feeling of returning home: On the other side, there is a feeling of having returned home, the period on the earth being like a sojourn. The Divine presence makes us understand that fact. The NDEers say that all our fears about life and about the aftermath are founded on illusion and that everything that happens to us on earth is part of a healthy education towards merger with Divinity and, so, everything is right.
3. Dissolution of the fear of mortality: Once freed from the body, the consciousness understands that, our true Self is immortal. This is what is involved in the NDEers expression: I am no longer afraid of mortality. They understand who they really are.
4. Different perspectives on time and space: They indicate that the way the mind functions, time and space become merely a part of its kaleidoscopic illusion. In the otherness, they feel the actuality of the timelessness and of existing in the eternal Now.
There are many more interesting things the NDEers come up with. It needs a sustained contact with that field to be able to appreciate and assimilate the essence of their messages. Even though we may not have a NDE, it is possible to sense what lies beyond the apparent by listening to their pointers. When a large percentage of human beings on this planet grow to appreciate the otherness, the world will be a wonderful place to live in – a place of unqualified love!
