July 19th 2012, Lancashire, England.: A memorable debut was made by the Indian prospect Anirban Lahiri at The Open Championship. He laid four shots behind the leader, Adam Scott of Australia after the first round. His superb start at the Royal Lytham and St Annes has been credited to a hot putter. This has enabled him to keep the bogeys off his card. Lahiri has won the Asian Tour twice. He had a good start with a five-foot birdie and then a 25 footer on the 13th hole. In words of Anirban Lahiri, he had a dream start in First Open@( http://4moles.com/cmstournaments/show/210-the-open-championship ). He had got a bogey free round with a 68 that he would wish to take any day. He said that he was a bit nervous on the first tee but it was probably the best shot of the day to five feet and made the putt. He had tied 14th place at the end of the day. He says that his putter has really helped him out whenever he hit it into a bad position. He also said that it’s not easy to make a whole bunch of birdies on such a course. He believed that he could make one or two more but it was okay with him now.
He had spent his most of the early part of the day to see the other players play and he learned a few tricks that had enabled him to have a good start. He said that his caddie that advised him to watch other players on the course and if they repeat patterns on a certain hole, it would help him save some shots. He had won the SAIL-SBI Open earlier this year. He had seen Tigers Woods hit some inspiring chips and he hit a similar shot on the course.
His father was watching him play from a small gallery following his group as he struggled off the tee on the front nine and hit just one fairway. Although he has played well, but he knows from inside that he must be sharper and smarter in the second round to keep his magic alive. He was feeling good about the game although he had missed a few fairways. He was happy that he did not make any stupid mistakes on a course like this. He had struggled really hard to reach this position today. He had outscored Jeev Milkha Singh by two shots.
