Press release dated October 27, 2014, Markham, ON – Nasopharyngeal carcinoma is a rare type of head and neck cancer. There are a few methods to diagnose the presence of this type of cancer; however, a patient can increase his or her chances of survival only if the cancer is diagnosed at an early stage. NP Screen kit is a trusted generic test that is meant to exclusively detect NPC. Nasopharyngeal Cancer Symptoms
• Double or blurry vision
• Difficulty speaking or hoarseness
• Recurrent ear infections
• Numbness or face pain
• Headache
• Ringing in ears, feeling fullness in the ear or hearing loss
• Lump in the neck or nose
• Nosebleeds/stuffy nose
• Sore throat
Well, these symptoms seem to appear with many other illnesses as well. However, when such symptoms are noticed on a consistent basis, it is better to diagnose for nasopharyngeal cancer using the NP Screen kit after consulting with an experienced medical practitioner.
There are certain factors that affect the chances of recovery and treatment options as far as this particular type of cancer is concerned.
Chances of recovery and treatment options are based on the following:
• The stage of the cancer
• The size of the tumor
• The type of nasopharyngeal cancer
• The age and general health of the patient
Once nasopharyngeal cancer is diagnosed, tests should be done to discover if the malignant cells are contained within the area, that is the nasopharynx or have they spread to the other parts of the body. The process with which we can find out if the cancer has spread to the other parts of the body or has spread only within the nasopharynx is called staging. The information collected from the staging process decides the stage of the disease. Only if the diagnosis is done at any early stage and the stage is confirmed, treatment can be planned. Here is where the NP Screen has its role to play.
Following are the stages of nasopharyngeal cancer:
Stage 0 (Carcinoma in Situ) – In this stage, the abnormal cells are seen in the lining of the nasopharynx. There are chances for these cells to become cancer cells and spread to the nearby normal tissues.
Stage I - Cancer cells have formed and are detected in the nasopharynx.
Stage II - Stage II is divided into stage IIA and stage IIB:
Stage IIA: Cancer has already spread from nasopharynx to oropharynx and/or to the nasal cavity.
Stage IIB: Cancer is found in nasopharynx as well as spread to the area surrounding it and/or to the lymph nodes on one side of the neck.
Stage III - In this stage, nasopharyngeal carcinoma is found in the nasopharynx. It has further spread to the lymph nodes on either sides of the neck or it has spread into the oropharynx and/or nasal cavity and to the lymph nodes on both sides of the neck or it has spread well beyond the soft tissues into the areas surrounding the pharynx and to the lymph nodes on both sides of the neck or it has spread to nearby sinuses or bones and may have also spread to the lymph nodes on one or both sides of the neck.
Stage IV - This stage involves spread of the cancer cells beyond the nearby lymph nodes to the other parts of the body.
By using our NP Screen Kit, you can diagnose the presence of NPC in the earlier stages mentioned above when the cancer cells are contained within the nasopharynx and undergo treatment to increase the rate of survival.
