The time has come for human beings to realize that a paradigm shift is needed in their psychology to bring about a life of depth and beauty on this planet. Great masters like the Buddha and Jesus, who walked the earth all along history, have reminded the people about their barking up the wrong tree. Their promptings have gone unheeded and that has plunged humanity into horrors of violence and insecurity. Of late, the messages from paranormal phenomena, such as the out-of-body experience and the NDE, have shown similar guide posts to people, but to no avail. ‘Groupism’ based on nationality, religion and the like rule the psychology of people and undermine the possibility of harmony, camaraderie and unity among the human beings. A small section of humanity has realized the unfortunate state of affairs and is wondering about how the transformation can come. One answer to the above puzzle is to be found in the shift of the individual human beings’ psychology to the point that they realize the source of the problem. It is in their daily life outlook. The general tendency is to get caught up in the habitual neurology of chasing ego satisfaction and security through attachment to people, emotional systems, things and ideas. The so called happiness is built around the demand for satisfaction rather than let it be based on the joyous tidings of the soul. The latter leads to inner harmony and peace instead of to smug satisfaction of the ego.
The Cure
The paradigm shift needed in our psychology can be brought about by directing our energies towards understanding what makes our life meaningful on this planet. This is where applying ourselves to understanding the mundane and esoteric responsibilities can go a long way. Such an application lets in-depth peace of mind descend on us.
The mundane responsibilities are the palpable, practical ones. Each one finds oneself in a clime that determines such responsibilities to oneself, to one’s family, to the society and to the humanity at large. The joy of fulfilling them leads to loving one’s life for its own sake. The egocentric question of ‘what will I get out of it?’ will begin to wane out.
Added to the above is the equally important esoteric responsibilities. This cannot be as well defined as the practical ones by the merely rational mind. It needs reflection along the inwardly directed non-verbal attention. They become clear, not through the commonly known intellectual approach of introspection, but through our intuition and self-awareness. It is so because the intellect is limited by the verbal knowledge accumulated by the mind. This is where the messages from the great Masters from time to time in history can help. Unfortunately, the conventional religious approaches take us exactly in the opposite direction because they are deeply rooted in the ego-based self-interest.
Messages from paranormal experiences can go a long way in shattering the habitual neurology of chasing ego-satisfaction and bringing about the much needed paradigm shift. The following lines taken from a NDE narration (on the shift in consciousness) says something about it.
“A recurrent nostalgia remains for that other reality, that condition of indescribable stillness and quiet where the ‘I’ is part of a harmonious whole. The memory softens the old drives for possession, approval and success.”
