Reliance Group, headed by Anil Ambani, hired pioneer of global telecommunication industry Juergen Hase as the CEO for their Internet of Things (IoT) business. Prior to this, Hase worked at Ooredoo – a telco in Qatar as an IoT/M2M (machine to machine) director at the group level. He will now be directly reporting to Managing Director Amitabh Jhunjhunwala.Juergen Hase comes with an experience of over 25 years and continues to be a vital part of various global M2M associations. Previously Hase worked with Deutsche Telekom (DT) serving as the Vice President for over 10 years. He has pursued graduation from Technical University, Germany with majors in telecommunications.
With the idea of serving fast paced world with the best if amenities, IoT business has been keeping the industry on their toes. Various companies have ventured in it and now have separate IoT business teams. Reliance Group is also striving to leverage domain expertise across telecom, power and utilities, transportation and financial services.
Reliance in 2015 had announced an IoT partnership with Jasper Technologies which was cancelled and later taken up by Cisco Systems Inc. On IoT’s angle, Reliance Energy is working on a smart grid management system to keep a check on transmission and distribution losses and lower energy bills. Whereas, Reliance General Insurance is working for vehicle telematics to access the risk profile of its vehicle insurance customers.
The Reliance Group stated, “Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital for Remote Healthcare and Assisted Living and these (IoT pilot projects on healthcare, vehicle insurance, power management) are intended to be scaled up and made available for external customers under Juergen’s leadership.”
Reliance’s quick step to hire an experienced game changer of the industry shows how they take the 21st century enterprise seriously. The IoT industry is experiencing maximum investments in smart homes or gadgets such as smart watch, smart refrigerators, AI etc.
