Many people show interest in understanding what happens to us at the time of passing on. However, not all of them are inclined towards exploring into it in a sustained way with an open mind. People who have given themselves over to belief systems would rather remain with their beliefs because it gives them a sense of security. Such psychological comforts would be shaken when confronted by other belief systems. True comfort can come only through transformational understanding based on intuitive perception of what happens at the time we end our tenure here on earth. In a troubled world like ours, such comfort is possible if we pay attention to the last moments of a passing-on person as also to the messages of those who go through NDE. The interesting thing is that such an inward growth leads to passionate living – living with abundant feelings for everything on earth, a matter of unqualified compassion towards all. ‘Groupism’ would not function in human beings anymore through identification with a nationality, religion etc. We may still pay attention to religion but it would be in a way very different from the conventional, system-oriented practices. As they approach the end of their lives, many people have their face lit up and, simultaneously, they come up with strange expressions such as ‘Oh, here is my Grandma!’ or some other near and dear one who has already passed on. They soon leave with a facial expression of deep peace. The NDE people say that as soon as they are in the other reality, they are free of all pain even if just prior to it they had severe pain. These things indicate that the passing-on experience is, in all probability, a wonderful experience – especially because we understand that the ‘Good bye’ on the terminal bed is only temporary. So, on those occasions, we would rather say “Bye for now”, or better still “Au revoir”!
After studying the feelings of many NDE people, Raymond Moody says that going to the Other Side is a kind of ‘Graduation’! It is a matter of moving from one reality to another that is filled with extraordinary perceptions. Since it is a graduation, we are tempted to ask, “Is there such a thing like graduating with an ‘A+’ ?! Irrespective of our faults and deeds, every one seems to be welcome there. However, for the part of our harsh behavior here on earth, we are put in the others’ position (during the Life Review) experiencing what the others experienced at our hands. That is a pointer to show how important it is for us to understand our compassionate role here on earth. Such compassion is a result of inner transformation and not one that comes through following instructions.
Everyday life becomes interesting because we are filled with wonder as to what life wants us to listen to and learn. This learning is at the soul level and not the usual one of accumulating verbal knowledge by the intellect. The mind evacuates itself of all the burdensome accretion from its thought-ridden proclivity.
We go through many periods of incarnate and discarnate lives, with no mortality at any point (!), ever evolving towards Divinity by the lessons we learn from both types of life. The more evolved we are, the more we enjoy life and the more we help others do the same. Individual harmony and so global harmony are possible when we pay attention to the hidden facts of life and the afterlife.
