For Immediate Release:- Cumbria, May 18, 2016: Westmorland psychiatric unit is to close after implementing the attempts to treat the safety issues raised by Care Quality Commission (CQC).
It is found that the Kentmere Unit offers the 12 beds for the patients with acute psychiatric conditions. As per the report published in the month of March stating that the unit and associated health based placed on safety was unable to meet with the expected national standard guidance. The placed people found using this service was at risk and did not maintain the environment to support better care and treatment.
According to the Cumbria Partnership NHS Foundation, a series of the improvement actions has exhausted with all further options. There is no other option except shut it.
It is expected that all the admissions of the unit will be ceased at the end of the May. Meanwhile the trust is opening 4 additional beds and support people at home.
As per the reports the unit will be permanently closed by the end of the June.
