6 Highly Effective, Minimally Invasive Treatments for Chronic Pain
Pain, acute or chronic, can turn your world upside down, and maybe even bring it to a halt. Common activities that were once enjoyable may become impossible due to severe pain.

freePRnow.com, 10/16/2017 - Gilbert, AZ – October, 2017 – Pain, acute or chronic, can turn your world upside down, and maybe even bring it to a halt. Common activities that were once enjoyable may become impossible due to severe pain. Extreme, stubborn pain can negatively impact anyone’s quality of life and make every day a challenge.

If you have tried medications and other conservative treatments, don’t despair. There is a way out! To combat the pain and help you return to a normal life, interventional pain management offers several treatment options.

Interventional Pain Management

Interventional pain management includes minimally invasive procedures to restore the patient’s functional activity and quality of life. Modalities, such as electro-stimulation, nerve blocks, injections and implantable drug delivery systems, can be used as part of the treatment process.

Different Interventional Pain Management Treatments

Several types of interventional pain management treatments are available today. Some of the most common techniques include –

Injections

Some common types of injections are Epidural Steroid Injections, Facet Joint Injections, and Trigger Point Injections. Each of these targets different conditions but most contain a combination of an anesthetic and a steroid.

Nerve Blocks

Pain signals are transmitted from the nerves to the brain. Nerve block injections are minimally invasive and offer lasting pain relief by interrupting the transmission of pain signals from the affected nerve to the brain.

Radiofrequency Ablation

Radiofrequency ablation or rhizotomy is usually used to treat low back and neck pain, especially the pain caused due to arthritis. The radiofrequency ablation technique uses a radio wave to produce an electrical current, which is then used to heat an area of nerve tissue. This decreases the pain signals from that area and the patient experiences pain relief.

Spinal Cord Stimulation

Spinal cord stimulation involves application of mild electrical current to the source of the pain. Electrical leads are inserted near the spinal column and a mini generator is inserted into the abdomen or buttock. The generator emits electrical signals to the spinal column. This prevents the brain from perceiving pain.

Peripheral Nerve Stimulation

Peripheral nerve field stimulation is like localized spinal cord stimulation. In this case, the electrical leads are placed in very close proximity of the source of pain.

Intrathecal Pain Pumps

An intrathecal pump relieves chronic pain by sending small amounts of medicine directly to the intrathecal space (the area surrounding the spinal cord) to prevent pain signals from being perceived by the brain. Pump candidates include people for whom conservative treatments have failed and surgery is not likely to help.
