Dataworld Systems Limited publishes its prices online so office buyers in Kenya can compare printers and laptops before placing an order. The company sells computers, printers, networking equipment and power backup units from Eagle House in the Nairobi city centre. Its customers include small businesses, schools, NGOs and government offices. The printer section of the shop lists machines from Brother, Epson, Canon, Datacard, HP and Kyocera. Buyers comparing printer prices in Kenya can view ink tank models, laser printers, multifunction copiers, and ID card printers on the same site, with prices shown before tax. Some Epson EcoTank models in stock can print more than 10,000 pages before the ink needs replacing. Kyocera copiers are stocked new and refurbished, which gives smaller offices a lower-cost choice. The same section carries ink, toner, scanners and shredders, so a buyer can order a printer and its first supplies together.
"We show the price next to every printer because our customers like to compare before they speak to anyone," a company spokesperson said. "When a school or a company needs ten machines, our team prepares a formal quotation and advises on the model that suits the workload. We want every customer to leave with a printer that matches how much they actually print."
Deliveries go out to all 47 counties in Kenya, and customers outside Nairobi usually receive their goods within 24 to 48 hours by courier. Inside Nairobi, delivery is free on orders above KSh 10,000, and in-stock items paid for before 3 pm are dispatched the same day. The company also ships to Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda and South Sudan.
Laptops sit next to the printers in the same computing section of the shop. A buyer setting up a new desk can price both items on one order and receive them in a single delivery. Dell business models are listed with their processor, memory and storage details, so procurement teams can match each laptop to the job it will do.
